Ridley Scott's Blade Runner will finally receive a sequel this year, and according to some new plot details, we may be seeing the return of an iconic face.
According to The Terminator Fans, Dennis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 will feature the return of an iconic Replicant character. The website states:
“We can now reveal that a source close to the production of Blade Runner 2049 has informed us that the power of CGI will bring a Replicant character from the cult 1982 film back for the theatrical Blade Runner sequel. While we can’t be specific of which Replicant this will be; we have a few theories which we will discuss below… The digital CG Replicant character’s appearance in the movie will be at least 10 shots of film or more, so it won’t be a blink of the eye cameo… The technology is improving vastly for the ability to de-age, resurrect actors from death or as with with the Terminator franchise; where we have seen a younger Arnold Schwarzenegger brought back for Terminator Salvation and even to have a death-match with himself in Terminator Genisys which was credited by most Terminator Fans as being the best part of the movie.”
Now, the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story featured, not one, but two CGI-reconstructions in Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia. The decision was mixed; 50% of people loved the idea, while 50% absolutely hated it. Personally? I found it rather fantastic. However, I have no idea how this is going to work in Blade Runner 2049. I would love to see Batty return to this wonderful world, but his iconic death is one of the original film’s strongest moments.
Interestingly, that is not all! According to Birth. Movies. Death., they know where Harrison Ford’s Deckard has been hiding out since the conclusion of the original. Since the release of the teaser trailer, many believed Gosling’s K was searching for Deckard in that weird, orange, Mad Max-looking desert. The website revealed:
“Here’s a fun fact we learned via multiple independent sources: in Blade Runner 2049, it will be revealed that Rick Deckard has been hiding out in what remains of Las Vegas (one source suggested that he might even be living in the Luxor Hotel, but we couldn’t confirm that detail elsewhere).”
So, how do you guys feel about that? I have been replaying the Blade Runner 2049 trailer for the past few weeks, so I simply cannot wait to see more from this project. Hopefully, this is another Godfather Part II and not a Godfather Part III.
Blade Runner 2049 is set to hit theatres everywhere on October 6th, 2017.
