‘Blade Runner 2049’ May Answer This Insane Fan Theory

One of the biggest talking points from Ridley Scott's Blade Runner might be answered in the upcoming sequel. Hit the jump to check it out.

Ridley Scott’s 1982 masterpiece, Blade Runner, is set to receive the sequel treatment next year. Unlike most follow-ups that come too late (Zoolander, Anchorman), this movie may be even better than the original. In case you haven’t been paying attention, La La Land‘s Ryan Gosling is starring in the film, with Harrison Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard. One of the original’s most theories surrounded Deckard. For years, fans have been debating about the origin of the Blade Runner. Was he human, or was he a replicant? For those who are not too familiar with the terminology, a replicant is basically a robot who looks and acts exactly like a human.

The upcoming sequel, Blade Runner 2049, may in fact answer this fan theory. According to the film’s director, Denis Villeneuve, the question raised some contrasting views between Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford:

“It was very funny, I must say, to find myself in the literal crossfire of Harrison and Ridley, arguing as to why Deckard should be a replicant and why he should be human. As a fan, that’s a dinner I will remember for all my life.”

When Ford was asked if the movie will indeed answer the question, the actor refused to admit anything:

“I’m happy to censor myself on this one. I can tell you that it was a question that was of interest to me when we made the first film, and I’m not sure I ever got a straight answer from the people I was working with at that point. I think the answer to your question is worth the price of admission.”

So, what do you guys think? As someone who studied the film in my English class, I simply have no idea. There is so much evidence for both sides. I guess we will find out when Blade Runner 2049 hits theatres on October 6, 2017.
