‘Blade Runner 2049’: Dave Bautista Says Sequel Is Better Than Original

Dave Bautista, star of the upcoming Blade Runner 2049, thinks the sequel is better than the original film which premiered back in 1982.

A Blade Runner sequel has been in development ever since the original film premiered back in 1982. Three decades later, critically acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve has stepped up as the director for Blade Runner 2049 and Harrison Ford is back, presumably to hand over the reigns to franchise newcomer Ryan Gosling.

Details regarding 2049 are sparse, though we do know that Gosling plays LA based Officer K, who is a new Blade Runner. In addition, Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Rick Deckard. One of the newcomers to the franchise includes Guardians of the Galaxy alum Dave Bautista, who spoke to ABS CBN News to discuss the film and how it compares to the original film.

“I think it’s going to be – and this is hard to say because I know I’m going to get some grief for this – I think it’s going to be better than the first film. And I’m saying that because I think the script is better, it’s deeper. I think it’s a better story, I think it’s told in a better way, and I think it just answers a lot of questions. It’s going to be great.”

He also took a moment to discuss the visuals of the film and how the film introduces itself as a sequel.

“Visually, you are stepping back into that world. You’re going to be reintroduced to Deckard. The cast is absolutely amazing and I can tell you the script is super deep and really beautiful.”

Bautista’s claims are bold considering the original Blade Runner is one of the most influential and popular films of all time. Going forward, all we have to do is wait to see how the sequel compares to the original.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

The film stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, with Dave Bautista and Jared Leto.

Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters on October 6, 2017.
