Fans of Deadpool and the X-Men were worried that after the Disney/Fox merger the Merc with a Mouth would be put on a proverbial leash and get turned into a nightmarish PG-13 version of itself. Fox’s attempt to see what that looked like was Once Upon a Deadpool and that worked out partially, but it doesn’t seem like that’s what Disney will be doing going forward. During an earnings call Disney’s Bob Iger held his stance on Deadpool.
Bob Iger previously stated that he has no plans to change Deadpool and that includes its R Rating. Rumors flew around that Once Upon a Deadpool was an attempt to see what a PG-13 version of the film could do as a soft version of what Disney planned for the franchise, but now it looks like Bob Iger has different plans. During Disney’s Q1 earnings call, Chairman Bob Iger says “We’re continue in that business.” when asked about Deadpool and R rated Marvel films going forward. He also stresses the importance of “carefully branding them” and that should give fans hope for the future of Deadpool.
What do you think of Bob Iger’s comments? Are you excited for the future of Marvel studios after Disney’s acquisition of Fox? Sound off in the comments section below!
