Box Office: 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Reigns At No. 1; 'King Arthur' Crashes & Burns. Guy Ritchie's film cost a lot to make and completely bombed.
To absolutely no one’s surprise, Disney and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came in at number one over the box office weekend. In its second week, James Gunn’s film made $63 million, with it reaching a domestic gross of $246.1 million and a global gross of a whopping $630.6 million. The film has been in theaters for three weeks total (it opened one week early internationally) and it has already been very, very successful on all fronts. It also helped that one its biggest international markets, China, had the same opening day that it had stateside.
In second place is the Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn comedy, Snatched, with $17.5 million just in time for Mother’s Day. In third place is Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, crashing and burning with only $14.7 million. This is a low blow considering the film cost $175 million to make and it doesn’t look to be regaining any footing anytime soon given that the numbers will only continue to drop from here on out.
The Fate of the Furious drops to fourth place with a gross weekend amount of $5.4 million and a total domestic run of $215.1 million in its five weeks at the box office. Rounding out the top five is The Boss Baby with $4.8 million, for a domestic total of $162.6 million.
