Box Office: ‘Wonder Woman’ Stands Tall At No. 1 With $57.2M

Another week at the box office and there wasn’t really much of a competition. Wonder Woman took first place in its second week at the box office with $57.2 million. This brings its domestic total to $205 million. In its second weekend, Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman made more than both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad in its second weekend.

The film also only dropped 45% from its first weekend, which is impressive since many superhero films tend to drop between 50%-60% from one weekend to another. Wonder Woman is now only behind The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises in second weekend box office numbers.

The Mummy was buried at the box office in its opening weekend. The film cost $125 million, but only made $32.2 million and that number will drop from weekend to weekend. The film has been swamped with generally negative reviews and has a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Internationally, The Mummy will bring in $169.3 million. But no matter the high number at the international box office, the film is still meant to be the big opener for Universal’s Dark Universe, the next film of which will be Bride of Frankenstein in 2019. This recent incarnation of The Mummy made less than the 1999 Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz movie domestically and also less than The Scorpion King.

Elsewhere at the box office, the animated Captain Underpants came in third with $12.3 million while the horror movie It Comes At Night grossed $5.7 million. What did you see at the movies this weekend? Did you get a chance to check out Wonder Woman? Let us know in the comments!
