Brad Pitt Was Briefly Up For Playing Cable In ‘Deadpool 2’

Deadpool 2 continues to extensively look for an actor to play Cable, as Brad Pitt was apparently in talks for the role, though he's since moved on.

While it seems as though the list of actors who are on the shortlist to play Cable in Deadpool 2 keeps getting longer, we now know of an actor who (probably) won’t be playing Deadpool’s no-nonsense sidekick: Brad Pitt, who reportedly moved on from the project after a long period of consideration.

Collider is sharing another update on the ongoing ordeal that is the casting process for Nathan Summers (Cable), and as it turns out, Ryan Reynolds and the others deeply involved with the production were looking for a major star to act opposite to Reynolds’s goofy mutant mercenary. One of those frontrunners for the role? Brad Pitt. There was apparently interest from both Deadpool 2‘s creative team and Pitt himself to work together on the follow-up to last year’s R-rated breakout hit.

That being said, it doesn’t seem like it worked out, as the current position is that Brad Pitt has moved on. It’s been speculated that his potential involvement with a World War Z sequel, which he is expected to produce and star in, is the key factor that’s keeping him from suiting up. That’s not even getting into the fact that he’d have to subsequently commit to X-Force, several future appearances in the franchise, and possibly a Cable spin-off movie (or series), which could complicate his schedule to work on other projects. With that in mind, Collider’s sources have said that a potential return is not off the cards for Pitt. Looks like it’s back to the drawing board for Twentieth Century Fox.

Deadpool 2X-Force, and Deadpool 3 are all without release dates, but the films will come out in that order.
