‘Wonder Woman 2’ Gets A Late 2019 Release Date

Following the critical acclaim and stunning box office performance of DC’s Wonder Woman, Warner Brothers has officially set Wonder Woman 2 for a 2019 release date.

As Wonder Woman looks to cross $800M globally in the near future, Warner Brothers is looking out further in advance by staking their claims on a release date for the second movie. Wonder Woman 2 will take the spot that was previously reserved to an “Untitled WB Event Film” on December 13, 2019. Doing so will make the movie the fourth 2019 DC release should all the other projects (dated for April 5, June 14, and November 1) be released on schedule.

As we’ve previously reported, DC has plans to get 3-4 movies out per year, and given that there’s a lot of time between now and 2019 and there’s only Justice League and Aquaman to cover the rest of 2017 and 2018, they’ve really got time to start digging into DC’s mythology and expanding the world beyond the main trinity. Aside from The Batman looking to take one of those slots, that leaves two releases – from a list that currently comprises Suicide Squad 2, Flashpoint, Batgirl, Shazam!, Green Lantern Corps, and Justice League Dark – to fill the remaining spots. 2020 also looks to be a busy year for DC, with another four movies set for release on February 14, April 3, June 5, and July 24. Barring any surprise announcements or delays, most of the movies on the aforementioned list will be covered by the end of the year.

Wonder Woman 2‘s plot remains under wraps for right now, but it’s been indicated that it will be another period piece, this time set in the United States during the closing years of the Cold War. Jenkins is likely to return to the director’s chair, although she has yet to be confirmed. What is confirmed, however, is that she and DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns are both working on the script. Gal Gadot will return as the title heroine while Chris Pine will appear as Steve Trevor.

Wonder Woman is playing in theaters. Its cast includes Gal Gadot as Diana Prince (Wonder Woman), Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Lucy Davis as Etta Candy, David Thewlis as Sir Patrick Morgan, Elena Anaya as Doctor Isabel Maru (Doctor Poison), and Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff.
