‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Brendan Cowell Cast In James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Sequels

Game of Thrones star Brendan Cowell has been cast in James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequels.

This casting update comes to us courtesy of Deadline. News broke Thursday morning that Game of Thrones actor Brendan Cowell will appear in James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar films in which Brendan Cowell will portray a character by the name of Mick Scoresby, captain of a private sector large-scale marine hunting vessel on the planet of Pandora. He is slated to shoot his scenes for James Cameron in the Avatar films beginning this May in New Zealand.

You may not be familiar with the name, but Brendan Cowell has had a recurring role as Harrag in the seventh season of the hugely popular HBO series Game Of Thrones. Recently, Brendan Cowell took the lead role in Mike Bartlett’s BBC1 series Press. As far as the world of movies goes, the actor has appeared in the thriller, Noise, and war pic, Beneath Fill 60.

Plot details remain under wraps for James Cameron’s Avatar follow-ups, however, the sequels will continue to bring the world of Pandora to life and expand James Cameron’s vision.  The sequels are said to be four standalone experiences that will form together one epic saga that James Cameron has spent the last several years writing. James Cameron’s first Avatar film hit theaters in December 2009 and continued its massive success well into the early months of 2010.

The original Avatar received mostly positive reviews from critics and was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. It popularized 3D in cinemas and remains the top-grossing film at the global box office with $2.7B after becoming the first film to cross the $2 billion mark. The film was first released on December 18, 2009, followed by a subsequent release of a special edition on August 27, 2010.

Directed by James Cameron, Avatar 2 stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, CCH Pounder, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, David Thewlis. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2020.

The additional three Avatar follow-ups were previously dated to release on December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024, and December 19, 2025.
