Disney has announced that Brie Larson’s first cinematic solo outing as Captain Marvel has surpassed $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide. The Brie Larson movie has so far grossed $358.1 million at the North American box office and $644.5 million overseas. It’s the first billion-dollar hit of 2019 and the seventh Marvel Studios movie to accomplish the feat.
Captain Marvel marks the big screen debut of Carol Danvers, played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Academy Award winner Brie Larson. In the comics, Danvers was a test pilot who gained super strength and the ability to fly after being caught in an explosion with a Kree device.
Fans can expect to see Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel again in a few weeks when Avengers: Endgame opens in theaters. Endgame will serve as both a follow up to Avengers: Infinity War as well as the conclusion to the 22 films that came before it which has now been dubbed as the Infinity Saga by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige before the studio kicks off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.
While plot details still remain under wraps, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are expected to team up with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and utilize the Quantum Realm in their efforts to undo the decimation from Thanos’ snap and bring back half of the universe’s population which was turned to dust by the Mad Titan.

Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg and Jude Law. The film is currently playing in theaters.
