Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel Soars To $760 Million Worldwide

Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson has soared past the $200 million mark at the domestic box office, taking in another $68.5 million for its second weekend.

Not only that, but Marvel’s first female superhero film has already managed a global total of $760 million, pointing to a bright future for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Brie Larson set to take the lead of the franchise.

After its domestic debut of $153 million, giving it a worldwide launch of $455 million, coupled with a strong second weekend, the Brie Larson film is closing in on the $800 million mark continuing on its path to join the billion-dollar club.

Captain Marvel features Brie Larson as the titular superhero in an origin story for Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, a test pilot in the comics who gained super strength and the ability to fly after being caught in an explosion with a Kree device.

Mississipi Grind helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have directed from a script written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve. Here’s the official synopsis:

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg and Jude Law. The film is now playing.

Following her debut in her titular standalone film, Brie Larson will return to face Thanos in April when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019, however, it remains unclear as to whether or not Samuel L Jackson will appear.

Plot details are still under wraps but the Avengers are expected to team up with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and attempt to undo Thanos’ snap which gave way to the decimation of half of the Universe after the heroes failed to stop the Mad Titan from collecting all six Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War. The highly-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War follow-up will conclude the previous 22 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Marvel kicks off Phase 4 with Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.
