Brie Larson Is ‘Grateful’ To Be Playing Role Of Captain Marvel

Academy Award winning actress, Brie Larson, known for roles in 'Room', is "grateful" to be playing the role of Captain Marvel.

Brie Larson was announced as Captain Marvel back in July of 2016 and there has been excitement swarming the role ever since.

In a recent interview, Larson, who’s roles have included Room, which she won an Academy Award for, and a favorite of mine, Short Term 12, talked about discussions she’s had with fans specifically about why they love Captain Marvel.

“I have so many conversations with fans about the universe and this character in particular. I’m grateful for social media for that, actually—it’s such a great way to connect with people, to understand what it is they love about this character, what it is they hope to see.”

There’s certainly a lot of pressure, as with any actor who decides to take on a beloved comic book character that has decades of history and a passionate fanbase. Larson has a sense of “great responsibility” that comes with playing the character, but all in all, she is happy that she gets to be a part of it at all.

“Where this character’s at in the comic books is such an inspiring space, right now. I’m so grateful to be part of it.”

The Captain Marvel film will be the first standalone film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has a female in the lead role. The film doesn’t have a director yet, but we can hope to hear more information as time goes on.
