‘Power Rangers’: Bryan Cranston Confirms Character Rumor

Power Rangers actor Bryan Cranston has just confirmed rumors that his character, Zordon, is actually a former Power Ranger himself.

Bryan Cranston, who is playing Zordon in Lionsgate’s upcoming Power Rangers movie, just confirmed a rumor about his version of the character.

The rumor in question has been around for quite a while, reported first by Heroic Hollywood’s own Umberto Gonzales, and it concerns Zordon’s expanded backstory. In the show, Zordon defeated the villainess Rita Repulsa ten thousand years in the past before being thrown into an energy field that limited his ability to function in normal time and space, thus leaving him confined to a device in his hidden base. In the new movie, it was said that Zordon would actually be the original Red Ranger who faced her.

As it turns out, Bryan Cranston just confirmed the rumor, but not in the way you’d expect. As reported by Power Rangers NOW, Cranston gifted a signed copy of his memoir A Life In Parts to Power Rangers Megaforce actor Andrew Gray, who played the Red Ranger on that show. In the note written inside, Cranston explains that his gift is “to a Power Ranger, from a Power Ranger”:

So it’s official – in the movie’s new continuity, Zordon was a Power Ranger once. Interestingly, this also lends credence to another rumor that first popped up around the same time – that Rita Repulsa used to be the Green Ranger before turning to evil. This rumor itself gained support from the fact that Rita’s green costume was such a departure from the costume shown in the original show, along with the perception that the gem inside her staff resembles a green version of the movie’s Power Coins.

Power Rangers will morph into theaters on March 24, 2017.
