Bryan Singer On Fox’s Cinematic Universe; Could We See ‘Deadpool’ In An ‘X-Men’ Film?

While they are limited to just the X-Men & Fantastic Four properties, 20th Century Fox is looking to expand their own cinematic universe on both the big & small screen this year. But are they able to compete with the likes of Marvel Studios & Warner Bros. when it comes to these superhero franchises while being somewhat limited? Speaking with Variety, X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer commented on that and stated that believes Fox’s own cinematic universe can compete with the likes of the two as it “every bit as large” and due to having altered the timeline with X-Men: Days Of Future Past“there are endless possibilities.”

This year saw the addition one of those “possibilities” as Deadpool hit theaters and became a smash hit for the studio. Could we see the Merc With The Mouth popping up in one of the core X-Men films? Singer commented on the possibility and while he seems open to it, it might not as easy as it sounds.

If you take a character as irreverent and meta as Deadpool and connect him to something as grounded and serious as X-Men, you have to do it carefully and gently. When you drop them all in together it can be a disaster. That has to be done delicately, but there’s plenty of room to do it.

One of the easiest ways though would be the obvious answer: X-Force. I’d be quite surprised if this one doesn’t happen as Singer has brought up the property himself and star Ryan Reynolds has stated that the project is a “priority” for him. But what about the future for director Bryan Singer when it comes to the X-Men universe? While his future with the franchise is unclear, it doesn’t sound like he’s planning on leaving it just yet.

When you spend nearly two decades in a universe, to simply say, ‘I’m done,’ or, ‘I’m going to abandon it,’ just wouldn’t make sense to me. I’m very connected to this universe and a lot of these actors, and also the characters, whomever plays them. So never say never.

While I know some aren’t the fondest of his films, as someone who thinks that X2 & Days Of Future Past are some of the best comic book films ever made, I personally hope Singer stricks around for awhile longer. Very curious to see how Apocalypse plays out later this month and what they have in store for the future. Let us know what you think and sound off with your thoughts on the above in the comment section below.
