REPORT: Canceled Marvel Characters Can’t Appear Outside Netflix Until 2020

A new report reveals the canceled Marvel characters from Netflix cannot appear in any non-Netflix television show or film for at least two years.

With the cancelations of Iron First, Luke Cage, and Daredevil, Marvel fans hoped the shows could live on another network like Hulu or the upcoming Disney+. However, a revival for these shows happening anytime soon seems to be a long shot according to a new report from Variety. The trade states the deal between Netflix and Marvel for the four original shows includes a clause that prohibits a Marvel character from appearing in a non-Netflix film or television series after cancelation for at least two years.

So Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil won’t be revived by anyone other than Netflix until 2020. The Punisher and Jessica Jones are also the two final Marvel-Netflix shows that have yet-to-be canceled due to seasons coming in the new year, so the wait would be even longer if those shows are canceled as well.  So it seems Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil will be sitting on the shelf for a while until they are either revived for another season on a new network, or rebooted.

Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world, or embracing his destiny as a hero.

Daredevil Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
