‘Captain Marvel’ Soars Above ‘Batman v Superman’ At U.S. Box Office

Captain Marvel is still flying strong at the box office, reaching higher domestic numbers than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

According to a report by Forbes, Captain Marvel is going strong at the worldwide box office, so much so that it has just passed over other the domestic box office total of the 2016 DC Extended Universe installment Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Captain Marvel recently gained $2.798m in the most recent week which is 35% less than the previous Wednesday. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had a domestic box office run of $330m in 2016 and Captain Marvel is currently at $330.776m with its most recent earnings included.

Next up on the list of films Captain Marvel is expected to fly over is Guardians of the Galaxy which earned a total of $333m in 2014, Spider-Man: Homecoming with $334m in 2017, Aquaman with $334m in 2018, and Spider-Man 3 with $336m in 2007. Captain Marvel is expected to pass these films by the end of its fourth week run with $20m bringing it to a new total of $352m after 24 days.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice may have been a big hit for DC, but Captain Marvel seems to have become much bigger. Even though Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had some fans split on the direction it took the story and characaters, it was a success at the box office, bringing in big numbers only three years ago. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also notably debuted Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, who has become a huge presence in the current DCEU.
