Captain Marvel is soaring into theaters this week and the subject of internet trolls affecting the film has been making news recently. There have been people attempting to affect Captain Marvel through negative reviews ahead of its release and the website for Rotten Tomatoes even had to make some changes after groups of trolls attacked the film’s “Want To See” score, bringing it down to 28%, the lowest for a Marvel film. Now the cast recently sat down for an interview had a response for the trolls.
Captain Marvel stars Lashana Lynch and Gemma Chan felt the same about the trolls, stating that a person’s reaction may not be real until the film’s release. Lynch stated:
“There’s hundred and hundreds, sometimes thousands of people that are involved in this and it’s just important to give everyone their props.”
Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck appeared to be more on the dark regarding the trolls, but Samuel L. Jackson had the following to say on the matter:
“Well the mere fact that you give voice or a platform to people who normally don’t have a platform is part of the problem. So you can have an opinion that you really don’t have to be responsible for cause nobody is going to see you, nobody is going to challenge you on it. If you want to bring or break somebody down or just ruin somebody’s day you can say anything. I mean everybody doesn’t want to be uplifting and that’s pretty much what that problem is.”
