While they didn’t exactly break the internet, the Entertainment Weekly cover and images for the upcoming Captain Marvel did provide our first, official look at the Brie Larson-led Marvel Studios film set to hit theaters next year. Among the stills were some images of the visiting Namekians from the planet Namek- I mean, the Skrulls. And some character details give us a bit more insight into the Skrull leader, Talos, who will be played by Director Krennic himself, Ben Mendelsohn.
Mendelsohn had previously described the Skrulls as “misunderstood,” and the character details provide information on not just Talos, but Nick Fury and Agent Coulson, Korath and Ronan the Accuser prior to when we would later see them in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Minn-Erva as the literal “star” of Starforce, setting the stage for her eventual rivalry with Carol Danvers.
Indeed, based on the descriptions, Captain Marvel will be setting up a lot not just for what we know takes place later in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as leading Fury and Coulson to their later roles in S.H.I.E.L.D., what ultimately leads Ronan to aligning with Thanos- and maybe what led to him having those implants, and the role Jude Law’s character as a Starforce military leader and recognizing Carol’s contributions to the Kree.
What do you make of the character descriptions thus far? What are you most excited for in the Captain Marvel film? And when do you believe there will be a trailer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
