‘Captain Marvel’: Jude Law On The Secrecy Surrounding His Role

During an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jude Law discussed the secrecy surrounding his role in Captain Marvel.

Although Jude Law is widely believed to be playing Mar-Vell, the first character to take on the Captain Marvel mantle in the comics, details on his role have yet to be officially confirmed. While comparing the lengths the teams behind Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Captain Marvel go to in order to keep the secrets of their respective films under wraps, Jude Law could neither confirm nor deny that he is playing Mar-Vell:

“”I can’t tell you who I am. […] So, when you’re doing Fantastic Beasts, I think it might be this British/American difference. With Fantastic Beasts, they’re like, ‘You know, we assume you’re not gonna give any of these secrets away and if you do, we’re gonna tell you not to again and then we might quietly kill you.’ In Marvel it’s like, ‘don’t you ever f***ing tell anybody about this!””

Jude Law also recounted how there was someone hired to ensure that he cloaked himself when out in public while wearing the costume and that his children had to sign NDA’s upon visiting the set.

Based on the Marvel comic character first appearing in 1968, the story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.  Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.
