‘Captain Marvel Prelude’ Shows Nick Fury Tried To Reunite The Avengers

There was an idea, one time. Bring together some very special and powerful individuals for a multibillion dollar franchise deal — I mean, for the purpose of saving the world as the Avengers. What Nick Fury started with his interaction with Tony Stark back in Iron Man in 2008 has continued to this day, albeit with some complications, especially if Avengers: Infinity War was any indication. But he got to send a distress signal to Captain Marvel, so at least he accomplished that.

Still, the question remains: just what has Nick Fury been up to in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Age of Ultron? Well, it’s Nick Fury, so one answer would be to just play along and see what he has planned, but it turns out that he tried to bring the band back together for one more concert before they rode off into the sunset. In the Captain Marvel Prelude comic, it’s revealed that prior to Infinity War, Nick Fury and Maria Hill have been keeping an ever watchful eye on the Avengers because of course they have.

But since bonds and friendships sort of broke down on all sides due to the events of Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers aren’t the same unified team that they once were. But Nick Fury tried. Oh boy, did he try. The comic reveals that he met up with Steve Rogers, following Steve freeing the others imprisoned at The Raft, and attempted to squash the beef between Steve and Stark, saying that there were greater intergalactic threats that would call for a united front.

Remember that Cap did give Tony an option to get in touch with him, as he explains to Nick Fury. However, Tony’s meeting with Maria Hill doesn’t go any better. Still, Tony does have the phone in case he ever wants to call Steve. He may not be taking that option now, but it’s there in case he does. Here, have a look at Nick Fury’s talk with Steve in the Captain Marvel Prelude comic.

And we didn’t see Cap and Tony cross paths in Infinity War. While Earth’s heroes did combat Thanos, the Mad Titan ultimately succeeded in snapping half of humanity out of existence. It remains to be seen how this and the schism between Cap and Tony will be resolved in Avengers 4, but let us know your thoughts on how this will be fixed when the follow-up to Infinity War hits theaters next year.

Let us know how, if at all, you expect Tony and Steve’s conflict will be handled in Avengers: Untitled in the comments below.
