Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel centered around the eponymous hero’s efforts to uncover the truth behind her past, but the film also offered hints at what the future could hold for Carol Danvers. For example, during the flashback’s scenes, fans can spot that Maria Rambeau’s call name is “Photon,” which is also one of the codenames her daughter Monica uses when she becomes a superhero.
In the comics, Monica gains her superpowers after being hit by extradimensional energy from an energy disruptor weapon created by a criminal scientist. The character is played by young actress Akira Akbar in the movie.
