Before Captain Marvel debuted in theaters, internet trolls brought down the film’s Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score to the 30% range with fake reviews, many of which attacked Brie Larson and Marvel’s push for diversity rather than the concent of the film itself. Rotten Tomatoes has since removed many of these fake reviews, noting it was a glitch that caused them to appear when they shouldn’t have, and the Audience Score for Captain Marvel has since risen to 62% as of now.
With this new Audience Score, Captain Marvel has earned a full popcorn bucket, which Rotten Tomatoes notes is given “when at least 60 percent of users give a movie or TV show a star rating of 3.5 or higher, a full popcorn bucket is displayed to indicate its Fresh status.”
Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
