Despite Rotten Tomatoes’ efforts to retool its audience scoring system to prevent trolls from bringing down the rating before a film is released, it appears the trolls wasted no time in bombarding the Captain Marvel audience score with negative reviews just hours after the film was released in theaters. By 8 a.m. on Friday, Captain Marvel had a 33% audience score based on more than 58,000 reviews, which is more than total audience score reviews Avengers: Infinity War received for its entire theatrical run.
While there are undoubtedly many moviegoers who were genuinely unimpressed by the film, the speed with which so many negative audience reviews appeared suggests there is a concerted effort to bring down the Captain Marvel audience score. On the other hand, the film currently holds an 82% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
