In the comics, Carol Danvers had a trusty cat by the name of Chewie, an obvious reference to Han Solo’s nickname for Chewbacca in Star Wars. As seen in the latest trailer and other advertisements, Chewie will be appearing in Captain Marvel but he’ll have a different name.
Chewie will now be called Goose, a reference to Anthony Edwards’ character from the movie Top Gun. The cat had a notable interaction with a young Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) at the end of the second trailer for the film, which showed a very different side of Fury than what fans are used to. Now, Goose has made another appearance in Captain Marvel promotional art thanks to this brand new theater standee. Check out the theater standee below.
In the comics, Chewie travels through space with Carol and eventually, it was revealed that he was part of an alien race known as the Flerken. The revelation came from Rocket Raccoon in the comics so hopefully, there will be a fun call back to that moment when Carol appears in Avengers: Endgame slightly over a month after Captain Marvel opens in theaters.
