Samuel L. Jackson Reveals Captain Marvel Can Time Travel

We’re exactly two months away from the release of the upcoming Captain Marvel film, and promotion for Marvel Studios’s first film with a main female protagonist has been ramping up considerably. While the film is sure to have some surprises that we haven’t seen in the trailers so far, Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, has already dropped a pretty big one: that Brie Larson’s titular character can time travel. Supposedly.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jackson had this to say about Carol Danvers’s powers:

“She’s pretty much the strongest character — in terms of someone with powers are able to do things — in the Marvel universe. So, for Carol Danvers to be that person and for Brie to become that person, it’s gonna be a dynamite thing. I mean, [the Avengers] are up against some really, really tough odds right now — we saw throughout Infinity War — so now we know that we need something that’s as powerful as Thanos. And at some point, we’ll find out how powerful she is and all the things that she’s capable of. She’s one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time travel, so…”

As far as we can tell, Carol Danvers hasn’t had the ability to travel through time in the comics. She can fly, fire photon blasts from her hands, absorb energy, and has super strength; time travel would probably be a stretch for the character to have. Even if she did have a power like this, it would make helping the Avengers reverse Thanos’ snap at the end of Infinity War far too simple in Endgame. That then raises another question: why hasn’t she used it earlier on for events in the past MCU films? That’s one rabbit hole too complicated for the MCU to go down.

But let’s look at it from another point-of-view: maybe Jackson was implying that time travel wasn’t an immediate power of Carol’s but that she would have a hand in doing so in the events of Endgame, once the Avengers find some method of doing so. Either that or Jackson’s just messing with us. Knowing Marvel Studios, anything is possible at this point.

What do you think of Jackson’s quote? Can Captain Marvel actually time travel, or is there more to it then that? Let us know in the comments!

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.
