Perhaps the biggest news this Oscar season is how much praise Black Panther is getting from the Academy. It has made its mark as the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture. This is exciting news and a progressive step forwards for the genre and the Academy. It’s been a long time coming for a superhero film to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, and Black Panther is the perfect first choice. The star of the film, Chadwick Boseman, has taken to his Twitter account to express his feelings on the nominations.
Since the release of the film, the movie has reached many milestones. For it to be recognized by the Academy to be worthy of a Best Picture nomination shows that the genre is being taken more seriously. For years, it’s been evident that the Academy doesn’t notice superhero movies to be worthy of that nomination. Perhaps this signifies a shift in the culture that these movies are more than just generic entertainment, blockbuster films. You can catch the 91st Oscars ceremony on Sunday, February 24, 2019. It will air live on ABC.
Directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Sterling K. Brown, Florence Kasumba, John Kani, with Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.
Black Panther is now available on Digitial HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
