Chadwick Boseman Reveals Whether Or Not We’ll See Wakanda In ‘Civil War’

While we were originally supposed to get our first look at Wakanda, or at least its Vibranium mines, in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, the fictional city did not end up featuring in the final cut of the movie. However, due to Black Panther’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War, fans have been wondering whether or not we’ll end up seeing Wakanda there.

During their set visit for the highly anticipated movie, Nerdist had a chance to speak with the Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman. When asked if we’ll finally see Wakanda at some point in the threequel, the actor replied:

“I know you thought you were because of ‘Age of Ultron,’ but…it’s not happening.”

Obviously, Boseman couldn’t give away too many details regarding his role or his standalone movie, but he did offer a tease for what’s in store for the character:

“You’re seeing him in the larger scheme of things, like fighting outside of his country. It will definitely affect what you see later. That’s all I can say.”

The folks over at Nerdist also spoke with director Joe Russo, who discussed how large of an impact the events of Civil War will have on the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“There’s an intensity in this film. We dug deep to find motivations that were extremely personal and very emotional to the characters. It’s not for all characters because, like any fight, people take sides and some people have stronger motivations than others, and as the fight gets worse people drop out because they don’t have the stomach for it. We have a couple characters that go to the end and they go to the end pretty hard and pretty ugly.”

The director went on to reveal that Boseman actually created a Wakandan accent for the character, which is based on other African accents:

“He found a regional accent based on where Wakanda would be.”
