Filmmaking can be an exciting, yet tough process. Sometimes, directors may have a particular idea on what they think their movie should be like – whether it is certain story beats, shot compositions, or certain character dynamics. When principal photography goes underway, a director thinks they have an idea on where their product is headed, but once they hit the editing room, they may realize that there are some things that fit, and some that don’t.
James Gunn, director of the first Guardians of the Galaxy film as well as the upcoming sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently putting together the film in post-production with his editors. Gunn is one of the most distinct voices that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has, with his signature sense of humor that permeates throughout the Guardians themselves.
Gunn recently took to his Twitter account to express a frustration he has when putting together his movies. His tweets imply that a character may have been removed from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, meaning that a performer would not see himself/herself in the finished product. Thankfully, Gunn is not one to keep those cut in the dark, having to find out the hard way.
Which character do you think may have been removed from the film? Is it one of the newer additions to the cast? Or maybe is it a minor role that seemed like an exciting part of the film during production, but in retrospect does not fit with what Gunn’s vision is now. I for one really hope it’s not Sylvester Stallone, but whatever decision Gunn believes is best for the movie, I think we should have complete trust in him.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.
