Marvel has released a brand new comic prelude for the their forthcoming movie; Doctor Strange. Marvel has been known to include comic book tie-ins with most of their MCU movies. The comics tend to just be additional content but they are considered canon to the MCU, with that in mind there has been some interesting character additions in the latest Doctor Strange prelude.
The two characters introduced are, Tina Minoru and Daniel Drumm as apparent mystical colleagues of Kaecilius, the character played by Mads Mikkelson. Tina Minoru is the mother of Nico Minoru and an antagonist in the Runaways comic book series created by Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona. The fan favourite series has long been rumoured as in some stage of development at Marvel Studios. Daniel Drumm has traditionally been dead in the Marvel Universe, but features as a ghost sidekick to his brother Jericho Drumm, another Marvel magic user known as, Brother Voodoo. Jericho even took on Strange’s title of Sorcerer Supreme for a time and was renamed, Doctor Voodoo.
The appearance of a character in a comic book tie-in is no guarantee they will appear in the new movie but the events could be the cause of Daniel Drumm’s death or Tina Minoru status as a villain effectively setting up the characters of Nico Minoru and Jericho Drumm in the MCU.
