Charlie Heaton Says ‘New Mutants’ Will Still Release In 2020

The New Mutants star Charlie Heaton claims that the film was pushed back due to Disney acquiring Fox, and will arrive sometime in 2020.

While fans were beginning to wonder whether they’d ever get to see The New Mutants, Charlie Heaton really mentioned that the X-Men film will arrive in 2020 and was delayed thanks to Disney buying Fox. The New Mutants was originally pushed back to focus on the horror side of the story – although Disney is reportedly unhappy with the current state of the X-Men film. But according to The New Mutants star Charlie Heaton, it will finally arrive in 2020.

During an appearance at the For The Love Of Sci-Fi convention in Manchester, U.K., Charlie Heaton spoke about the reasons for the film’s delay, mainly blaming Disney buying Fox’s assets. The New Mutants star also compared the film to Nightmare On Elm Street and Winona Ryder’s Girl, Interrupted. Take a look at Charlie Heaton discussing The New Mutants below.

“I don’t know! No, it’s coming out next year, but we filmed it almost two years ago. It’s the release [date] that’s been moved quite a while. If you don’t know, The New Mutants is like an X-Men spin-off. It was a comic book; Bill Sienkiewicz did it and it was an X-Men comic. It’s basically like a separate bunch of mutants. We shot this [film] a while back and its been pushed because Fox has now merged with Disney.”

Here’s the synopsis:

“Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”

The New Mutants opens on April 3rd, 2020. Stay tuned for the latest news on Charlie Heaton, The New Mutants and the future of the X-Men franchise!
