Captain America has become one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Chris Evans recently revealed what about the role appeals to him.
Captain America: The First Avenger isn’t exactly one of the biggest box office hits in the MCU but audiences became infatuated with Chris Evans in the lead role. The character only became more beloved by fans when he appeared in 2012’s The Avengers. Since then, the Captain America franchise has become one of the biggest ones in the entire MCU, which has carefully built its world and characters over the course of ten years. To commemorate the exciting decade of cinematic achievements, Marvel is releasing a book titled Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years which will hit shelves this Tuesday, November 20th.
The book chronicles the production of the whole MCU from Iron Man to Ant-Man and the Wasp. Though the book won’t be releasing for a couple of days, fans can get a peek at an interview with Chris Evans thanks to ComicBook.com. Evans began with breaking down what about the character’s motivations drew him to the role.
“Steve Rogers is a man who wants very much to do good and serve his country in World War II, but he’s been rejected from the Army for having asthma and other health challenges.”
Evans then went on to discuss the interesting moral core of Captain America and why Dr. Erskine (Stanley Tucci) believed in him so much in Captain America: The First Avenger.
“He is injected with a serum that turns him into Captain America – and Dr. Erskine knows Steve won’t take advantage of the gift of power and will always protect the weak.”
The upcoming phase of the MCU is still somewhat of a mystery to fans but in the meantime, they will be able to spend time diving into the behind-the-scenes story of how the MCU went from releasing two risky summer blockbusters in 2008 to producing three of the highest-grossing films of 2018, two of which are also some of the highest grossing films of all time.
