‘Avengers: Endgame’: Chris Evans On Marvel’s Plans To Address Captain America Continuity Problems

During a panel at ACE Comic Con Seattle, Chris Evans commented on Marvel’s plans to address the continuity questions created by Captain America’s fate in Avengers: Endgame.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame concluded with Chris Evans’ Captain America traveling to the past to return the Infinity Stones to their original location, only to return as an older man after choosing to live a full and happy life with Peggy Carter. Of course, Captain America’s decision to remain in the past raised questions regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity and Chris Evans indicated Marvel Studios has a plan to address these issues:

“You know, I’m not sure I can give you those answers. That’s weak as shit, but ask the writers. Look, I understand there’s a lot of things you can question about the time continuity but if there’s one thing I’ve learned about working with Marvel, they don’t leave stones unturned. They really don’t.”

After Chris Evans passed the question concerning Captain America continuity issues to Don Cheadle, his Avengers: Endgame co-star explained there is more than one timeline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“Steve exists on multiple planes and time isn’t a straight line, there’s multiple timelines.”

While Chris Evans’ time as Captain America has come to an end, the story of his friends Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes is set to continue in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Both characters were last seen in Avengers: Endgame, which concluded with Sam Wilson taking on the Captain America mantle.

Here is the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers:Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo,  Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

Avengers: Endgame will be available on Digital HD starting July 30 followed by a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on August 13.
