Is Chris Hemsworth Returning For ‘Star Trek 4?’

Star Trek Beyond isn’t even out in theaters yet, but there’s already talks of a fourth film in the new rebooted Star Trek universe. Recently a press conference was held promoting the upcoming film and producer JJ Abrams was asked about a fourth film. Although it hasn’t been officially greenlit, the director/producer had a few things to say about a hopeful fourth film.

“Yes, and there’s something that hopefully we’re figuratively minutes away from talking about. The answer is 100% yes, and it’s incredibly exciting.”

Now this doesn’t mean anything is set in stone. After all, Paramount needs the film to be a critical and commercial success for this to happen. Reviews have been highly positive for the upcoming film, so they may have some breathing room. However, there was something else interesting that came today. Reporter Scott Mantz sent out a tweet today stating that Chris Hemsworth will be returning back to the Star Trek franchise.

We all know Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder, Thor from many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. However, he had a great but small bit in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek as Captain James Kirk’s father George Kirk who sacrificed his life to save eight hundred people on the USS Kelvin, including his infant son’s life in the opening minutes of the film. George Kirk’s voice was briefly in Star Trek Into Darkness as well. The actor at that time was an unknown in the states and has gone to become a megastar thanks to the Marvel films.

Star Trek occasionally delves into time travel, so having James Kirk run into his father would not be out of the norm. He could also return in some form of a flashback as well. Either way, it’ll be great to see Hemsworth back in the Star Trek universe.
