Chris Hemsworth has officially completed his contract with Marvel Studios, but that doesn't mean the actor has completely closed the door on Thor.
Chris Hemsworth has finished filming the untitled Avengers 4, and as the actor tells USA Today, that’s effectively the end of his current contract with Marvel Studios:
“Contractually, right now — yeah, this is it. I’m done. I won’t be playing the character again. It’s sort of a scary thought. This really seemed like this never-ending thing. And now it’s potentially finishing.”
Despite his contract ending, Chris Hemsworth isn’t completely shutting the door on returning as Thor, especially after the success of last year’s Thor: Ragnarok, which, with director Taika Waititi’s guidance, helped refresh the franchise and Hemsworth’s feelings playing the character:
“We gave cheers … a few times. To Thor 3, but it also was like, ‘What could we do with four? We could do this and this.’ We were throwing ideas around. I felt like we re-invented him. There is a bigger platform now to continue if we want to.”
Chris Hemsworth has even discussed possibly returning with Marvel president Kevin Feige, but with the studio so heavily focused on Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, any official talks will have to wait:
“(Feige) said, ‘Look, we just have to concentrate on (Avengers) now.’ So who knows? There are 76 cast members in these two Avengers films. They will be the biggest films of all time, far bigger than my character. It’s a conversation for further down the road, if it was going to happen.”
Do you want to see Chris Hemsworth continue as Thor, or do you think it’s time to let another actor take a crack at the Thunder God? Who would you cast? Let us know in the comments!
Thor can next been seen in Avengers: Infinity War, which will be released on May 4, 2018, and has a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautisa, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Hiroyuki Sanada, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Josh Brolin.
The currently-untitled Avengers 4 features a cast made up of many of the key players in Infinity War — alongside newcomers like Brie Larson and Evangeline Lilly — and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
