Chris Pratt On Differences Between Filming ‘Guardians 2’ & ‘Avengers:…

One of the things that makes the Guardians of the Galaxy such a special element within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that it truly has a mythos unto itself that all the earthbound Marvel films don’t have. The stark differences between the cosmic realms and the Avengers adventures are why seeing both teams collide in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Infinity War is so exciting.

Avengers: Infinity War will finally bring the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) to unleash his chaos across the universe. Because Earth’s Mightiest Heroes cannot fight him alone, the Guardians have to join in on the fight.

While promoting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Chris Pratt was asked by Nerdist about the differences between his experiences filming Vol. 2 in comparison to the production on Avengers: Infinity War. Pratt went onto compare both realms of the MCU:

Guardians Vol. 2 was a Guardians movie and Infinity War is an Avengers movie. We [the Guardians] definitely will have a strong presence but we’re playing supporting cast and we’re there to help them tell an awesome Infinity War story. But Guardians is cosmic – it is its own special offshoot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and its out in space and its just like the universe it continues to expand outward, so there are brand new worlds in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I mean, set pieces and amazing worlds that you’ve never been to before. So beautiful, so stunning… It’s off the chain.

Thankfully, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 shed more light into Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s development alongside the rest of his ragtag group. What was refreshing about James Gunn’s sequel was that it didn’t rely too much as connective tissue with the entire MCU but focused more on being a more confined story spotlighting the characters themselves.

Focusing on the development of characters in their respective standalone films elevates the stakes that then expands into future stories. Thankfully, we will definitely see how the Guardians play into the conflict against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. 

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will blast into theaters on May 5, 2017. Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters on May 4, 2018.
