It took Marvel fans by surprise when James Gunn was abruptly fired from finishing his Marvel Studios trilogy with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He was fired due to decade-old tweets that contained extremely offensive “jokes” that Gunn himself had previously apologized for and deleted. Chris Pratt and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 were very outspoken against this action. Now that Disney has rehired James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Chris Pratt has opened up to People about Disney’s latest decision.
“I was so thrilled, so excited. I think it’s the right move, I really stand behind it. I’m really proud of Disney for hiring James back and ultimately thrilled for not only us, but also for the fans. I think it’s going to wrap up the trilogy in the best way.”

James Gunn had completed his script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and production was scheduled to begin early this year. However, the project was put on hold following the decision to remove James Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy, though Disney and Marvel Studios reportedly intended to use his script. Now, production on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film will begin after James Gunn directs The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros.
James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn.
