Christian Bale Confirms He Had Talks To Be In Solo: A Star Wars Story

'The Dark Knight' trilogy star Christian Bale confirms that he was in talks to appear in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' before Woody Harrelson was cast.

Christian Bale confirmed that he was in talks to appear in Solo: A Star Wars Story during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

The star of The Dark Knight trilogy confirmed reports that he was in the mix to play Han Solo’s mentor and while Bale did not explain why those discussions didn’t work out, he did express an interest in having future conversations:

“Yes, [it was] very tempting. I not only love the films going back to my childhood but also have a very long relationship with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall because they did Empire of the Sun many years back. There was discussion, [and] I hope there will be future discussions.”

Bale then added the following:

“Star War, I’m a huge fan. Yeah Star Wars really interests me. I’ve still got the Millennium Falcon, I’ve got the AT-AT. My daughter, her first love was Darth Vader. She absolutely adored Darth Maul. [She] stood near him at Disneyland and he growled and he’s got those teeth and he stayed in character, really wonderful performance, and she was teeny and I thought, ‘This is gonna scare the crap out of her, this is such a bad idea.’ And then she stopped and she said, ‘Daddy, I’m in love.’”

Details on the Solo: A Star Wars Story’s plot are currently unknown, though the film is said to chronicle the adventures of the smuggler during his youth and will include his first meeting with Chewbacca and how he came to possess the Millennium Falcon.

Written by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, Paul Bettany and Ian Kenny.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on May 25, 2018.
