Christopher McQuarrie Confirms He Was Never Approached To Direct Henry Cavill’s ‘Man Of Steel’ Sequel

Mission Impossible: Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie has confirmed that he is in no way involved with the highly anticipated Man of Steel sequel starring Henry Cavill as Superman.

Speaking with Polygon, Matthew Vaughn has said he is no longer talking with Warner Bros. regarding a possible Man of Steel sequel starring Henry Cavill, which led to a big reveal from director Christopher McQuarrie on Twitter. Christopher McQuarrie worked with Henry Cavill on Mission Impossible: Fallout. During the production, the director revealed that he and Henry Cavill had discussions about a possible version of Superman for the big screen.

But when Christopher McQuarrie was brought up on Twitter as a possible contender to direct Henry Cavill in the next Superman film recently, he revealed he was never approached by Warner Bros. or anyone at the studio and shut down any possibility regarding his future involvement with the DC franchise:

“They never asked. They never will. Carry on.”

While Matthew Vaughn is possibly out as the director, Warner Bros. has not confirmed that a Man of Steel sequel is even on the table. Henry Cavill has also not confirmed or denied that he will return as Superman, but bringing on Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie could help in that department.

What are your thoughts on Christopher McQuarrie being out on Man of Steel 2? Who do you think could be the right fit for the film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

Unfortunately, Man of Steel sequel is reportedly not among many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects do include The Batman, The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Supergirl, and New Gods.

Henry Cavill’s future as Superman is currently in question, with Warner Bros. reportedly planning to put the character aside for the time being. Henry Cavill exited negotiations to reprise his role as Superman last year after the studio could not reach an agreement that would have seen him return for a cameo in Shazam!. Instead, the film managed to still include the cameo with Henry Cavill’s Superman by keeping Superman’s head out of the shots he was in.

Henry Cavill can be seen as Superman in Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. Henry Cavill will next be seen in The Witcher series on Netflix. Based on the fantasy series of novels and short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher will follow Henry Cavill as the monster slayer for hire named Geralt of Rivia.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the film and all of Warner Bros. upcoming DC Films and television projects!
