Christopher McQuarrie To Direct Back-To-Back ‘Mission: Impossible’ Sequels

Christopher McQuarrie will return to direct back to back sequels for the Mission: Impossible franchise.

According to Variety, Christopher McQuarrie has officially closed a deal to return and direct two sequels to Mission: Impossible – Fallout that will shoot back-to-back. The back-to-back sequels are expected to hit theaters in the of Summer 2020 and 2021. This is very similar to the way Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were filmed. The director confirmed the news in the tweet below:

Christopher McQuarrie returned to not only write and direct but also produced the picture along with Cruise, Don Granger and J.J. Abrams as well as David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance Productions.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout stars Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Cavill, Sian Brooke, Frederick Schmidt, and Angela Bassett.

Here’s the synopsis:

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Mission: Impossible – Fallout is now available on digital platforms, Blu-ray and DVD.
