According to Variety, Christopher McQuarrie has officially closed a deal to return and direct two sequels to Mission: Impossible – Fallout that will shoot back-to-back. The back-to-back sequels are expected to hit theaters in the of Summer 2020 and 2021. This is very similar to the way Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were filmed. The director confirmed the news in the tweet below:

Christopher McQuarrie returned to not only write and direct but also produced the picture along with Cruise, Don Granger and J.J. Abrams as well as David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance Productions.
