Christopher McQuarrie & Henry Cavill Discussed ‘Superman’ Movie Ideas

Mission: Impossible -- Fallout director Chris McQuarrie has apparently had many conversations with Henry Cavill about the future of the Superman franchise.

Hope for another standalone Superman movie seems to be building, as are hopes that Christopher McQuarrie (director of Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible — Fallout) could be in the director’s chair. As it turns out, both McQuarrie and Superman actor Henry Cavill have talked ideas on where they would like to take the next installment of the Man of Tomorrow’s story.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, McQuarrie explained that he had a lot of discussions with Cavill — who was doing reshoots of Justice League during filming of the sixth installment of Tom Cruise’s spy franchise — about Superman and where to take his story:

“Henry Cavill knows what it would be like. We had a a lot of time hanging out on set, and Henry’s a huge fan of Superman. I can’t help but talk story to people, so he told me his take on Superman and I thought it was really great, and I gave him my two cents. The tweet you’re referring to is somebody asked ‘Would you do it?’ and I said ‘Hey, they know where to find me.’ Nobody’s asked, but you know…”

The thing about Hollywood is that denials come easy, so it may be possible that McQuarrie is more involved with talking with Warner Bros. and DC Films than he lets on. However, given that we’re not likely to get a sequel to Man of Steel until 2020 at the absolute earliest, the studio can take its time getting its ducks in a row.

Justice League is available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital Formats. The film is made up of an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne (Batman), Henry Cavill as Kal-El/Clark Kent (Superman), Gal Gadot as Diana Prince (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (The Flash), Ray Fisher as Victor Stone (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, J. K. Simmons as Commissioner James ‘Jim’ Gordon, Joe Morton as Dr. Silas Stone, Amber Heard as Mera, and Billy Crudup as Dr. Henry Allen.
