Clancy Brown, a regular in Marvel's Netflix universe, discussed how both companies have allowed for maximum creative freedom.
Seeing as most of his jobs surround adapting characters from comics, he’s not shy about admiring comic-books as a medium, as well as the execution of the projects he works on.
Speaking with SyfyWire, Brown discussed his role in the Marvel’s Netflix universe, as well as how both companies are handling the comic-book properties.
“I’ve always been a fan, it was always kind of forbidden when I was a kid. Now that geek culture has been embraced, you could argue that it’s taken over a little too much. Something like Punisher (is a live action character) that kind of has to be solved, but I think they’re doing a good job now of both Daredevil and Punisher. They hadn’t really been done well until Netflix did them.”
Brown went on to discuss how Netflix’s creative freedom is truly transparent by comparing his most recent role with Netflix on Trollhunters to The Punisher and Daredevil.
“Just like Trollhunters, they give the creators the freedom to do it. That said, I like doing stuff like Trollhunters because it’s original, ya know? You’re not trying to satisfy somebody else’s expectation or some old guy my age, ‘Colonel Schoonover would never do that!’ [Laughs] What do I know? I get paid to do what they tell me to do.”
While Colonel Ray Schoonover is deceased in Marvel’s Netflix universe, Daredevil and The Punisher are set to return to your television screens sometime next year.
