Common is currently facing off against Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter Two, the sequel to the 2014 surprise hit action thriller, John Wick. While promoting the film, the rapper/actor recently opened up to Yahoo! Movies about the superhero team-up that never came to fruition:
“Yeah, I was cast and we started rehearsals for the film. I went to Australia. I tried on the outfit and everything. It was heartbreaking, but it happened. The script was super-dope. It was intricate. And knowing George Miller was going to do it, you knew it was going to have that raw edge. But it had Superman, Aquaman, it had all of the characters really involved. Each one of them had moments and you got to know them. It was a strong piece.”
Over the years, Common has made a name for himself as an action star thanks to his performances in Smokin’ Aces, Street Kings, and Hell on Wheels. During a recent press junket for John Wick: Chapter Two, the actor said he would still love to play Green Lantern. While Common never got to wear the suit with the cameras rolling, there is still hope the actor could fill the role with Warner Bros. currently developing Green Lantern Corps.
What do you guys think? Would you like to see Common get a shot at playing Green Lantern? Idris Elba has unquestionably been the fan favorite pick as of late. Tyrese Gibson has also been campaigning for the role, the Fast & Furious star even met with Warner Bros. for the role. Sterling K. Brown recently threw his name into the mix as well. But none of the other three stars have the action chops Common has. Sound off in the comments below.
Green Lantern Corps will be written by David Goyer and Justin Rhodes, with president and chief creative officer of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns set to executive produce. The film is expected to hit theaters in 2020.
