Connie Nielsen Gushes Over Her ‘Wonder Woman’ Experience

As audiences finally line up to see the new Wonder Woman film this weekend, they will be awestruck when they are immersed into Themyscira, the land of the Amazonians. In the first portion of the film, we get an incredible view of Paradise Island and meet some of its inhabitants including Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta – who is played by Connie Nielsen.

The incredible action set-piece on Themyscira pitting the Amazonians against the German soldiers is one of the most incredible sequences in any DC film ever released. This is mostly due to the visuals as well as the stunt work from the actresses involved.

Nielsen spoke with ScreenRant during the press junket for Wonder Woman. During her interview, she expressed her excitement from working with director Patty Jenkins as well as her fellow actresses on the set of Themyscira:

I mean, it was a pleasure. It was a complete and utter pleasure and I absolutely loved every second of playing her. I loved every scene I did, every minute on set and off set too. The whole training period was a revelation for me. I’ve always been athletic, but I had never ever seen that level of training regime. I did six hours a day. You know, two hours of weight training, two hours of swords training, and then two hours of horseback riding. And I did all of that with these incredible athletes and actors, all of them women, and it was extraordinary and I absolutely had a blast.

All those hours of training really paid off for Nielsen and the actresses who brought the Amazonian warriors to life. Of course, the battle on the island is a highlight, but other scenes that featured them training, as well as the political structure on Themyscira, was fully engaging.

The film stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Lisa Loven Kongsli as Menalippe, Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff, David Thewlis as Sir Patrick Morgan, Elena Anaya as Doctor Maru, Ewen Bremner as Charlie, Saïd Taghmaoui as Sameer and Eugene Brave Rock as the Chief.
