Cosmic Ghost Rider creator Donny Cates quickly stepped in to debunk a report claiming that Marvel Studios has plans in Phase Five for the bizarrely brilliant reinvention of Frank Castle. For those not familiar with Marvel Comics’ Cosmic Ghost Rider, here’s a crash course: In an alternate timeline the Punisher was killed when Thanos invaded Earth, before making a deal with Mephisto to become the Ghost Rider to get his revenge. When he returned, the Punisher also made an agreement to become the herald of Galactus, wandering the galaxy as the Cosmic Ghost Rider. And as amazing as that story would be to see on the big screen from Marvel, it’s not actually happening.
Donny Cates took to Twitter when a site claimed that Cosmic Ghost Rider is part of Marvel’s plans going forward, playing along to the idea before having to explicitly mention that he knew it was fake. He later mentioned that a Cosmic Ghost Rider movie is not impossible, but that he’d know about it if Marvel actually had plans. Take a look at his tweets debunking the site’s report about Marvel’s Phase Five below.
