Sorry Potter Fans, ‘Cursed Child’ Movie Not Happening

From the moment J.K. Rowling announced that the story of The Boy Who Lived would continue in a West End stage production entitled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the fan community almost unanimously cried out for a movie adaptation, if only to see the original beloved actors return to their iconic roles one last time. Thus it is with a heavy heart, I am sad to report that Warner Bros has confirmed the following to The Huffington Post:

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.”

A few days ago, The New York Daily News reported that Warner was considering an adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s newest Harry Potter which she co-wrote for the stage with Jack Thorne & John Tiffany stating,

“Tinseltown sources say that Warner Bros. is interested in bringing the West End play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” to the silver screen as soon as 2020. Though whether or not the film’s 27-year-old star will don his round glasses again is anyone’s guess.”

Daniel Radcliffe, the star in question, has in fact shown interest in reprising his role, provided the script is good. He’s had a few good years to stretch as an actor and his body of work speaks for itself. Not to mention Rowling herself has stated that Cursed Child is the final Wizarding World story to feature Harry himself. Though. to be fair, she said that about Deathly Hallows as well.

So there you have it guys, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child isn’t coming the multiplex any time soon. But fret not, as the script for the stage play is available just about everywhere for those not lucky enough to live in the UK and see the production in all its glory. And don’t forget that November sees the release of the Wizarding World expansion and Rowling’s screenwriting debut, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemHarry Potter veteran David Yates returns to direct the spin-off.

I love movies. All types of movies of which I have many opinions. You may or may not agree with them, but they are mine.
