Damon Lindelof Might Not Return For A Season 2 Of HBO’s ‘Watchmen’

Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof is hesitant to return to the series if HBO renews it for a second season.

Watchmen premiered on HBO last weekend to rave reviews and huge ratings. Given that the show already seems to be a hit, it would be no surprise if HBO green lit a second season. However, Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof and his team of writers put everything they had in the nine-episode season that is currently airing.

HBO’s Watchmen seems to be both a sequel and a new story, with Damon Lindelof referring to it as a “remix.” Damon Lindelof hasn’t been quiet about how much he adores the Alan Moore’s original Watchmen graphic novel and doesn’t seem keen on returning if HBO renews it for a second season. Here is what Damon Lindelof has to say in a recent interview with  The AV Club:

“[It’s] not my story, right? I appropriated it. And so the idea that someone else could come along and do another season of Watchmen, that’s really exciting to me, too. I would watch the fuck out of that. These nine episodes are sort of everything that I have to say at this point about Watchmen, and then we’ll kind of go from there.”

Damon Lindelof did suggest that he would like to see someone like Black Panther‘s Ryan Coogler take over the Watchmen HBO series if it continues.
