According to Variety Danny DeVito has joined The Rock and Kevin Hart in the upcoming sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The news comes hot off the heels of Awkwafina getting cast in a key, undisclosed role in the sequel. While, the plot and the character Danny DeVito will be playing is currently unknown, The Rock has this to say about the legendary actor joining the cast.
“The magic of ‘Jumanji’ is who becomes who. And the idea of Danny DeVito joining our cast was too irresistible and something we knew we wanted to deliver to our audience this upcoming Christmas. Dwanta Claus loves everyone,“
The studio has set Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, two of the writers behind the first movie, to pen a sequel that would reunite Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan. Matt Tolmach is returning as a producer alongside Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle grossed $962.1 million at the worldwide box office, with $404,4 million of that coming from North America, making it Sony’s biggest hit to date. Thanks to it and a few other things, Sony posted a decent profit for the October-to-December quarter and record profits for 2017.
Welcome to the Jungle continues the legend of Jumanji introduced in the 1995 family film starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst. In the sequel, four high schoolers discover Jumanji, now in the form of an old video game, and are sucked into the jungles of the game, taking on the form of very different avatars who must beat the story in order to return to the real world.
Directed by Jake Kasdan, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is now available on Digital HD, 4K, Blu-Ray and DVD. The film’s cast also includes Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Maribeth Monroe, Missi Pyle, Purab Kohli, Rhys Darby, Tim Matheson, Marc Evan Jackson, and Bobby Cannavale.
