‘Daredevil’ Director Mark Steven Johnson Still Proud Of The Ben Affleck Movie

During an interview with ComicBook.com, director Mark Steven Johnson explained why he is still proud of Ben Affleck’s Daredevil.

Long before Charlie Cox portrayed the Man Without Fear in the acclaimed Daredevil series from Marvel and Netflix, Ben Affleck took on the role in a film directed by Mark Steven Johnson. While the film wasn’t a critical or box office success, Mark Steven Johnson reflected on why he is still proud of Daredevil for showing things we likely won’t see a Marvel project from Disney:

“I had a very, very small hand in that, but I do think we were doing some interesting things back then. We tried some things, which I am proud of. I do like the look of Daredevil very much. We hadn’t seen a superhero come home covered in scars, and chewing on pain pills, and it was kind of grim. You’re not going to get that right now from a Disney-owned Marvel character. You’re just not going to see that, and maybe there’s a reason. But I found that very interesting. It was something you hadn’t seen.”

Mark Steven Johnson also commented on the fact that fans are generally more positive towards his director’s cut of Ben Affleck’s Daredevil:

“I know it’s haunted me for years, because the people that, not all, but a lot of the people who didn’t like the film, see the director’s cut and really enjoyed it. But what good does that do you in the end? You just hope that people see that eventually, and make up their mind based on that.”

Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world, or embracing his destiny as a hero.

Daredevil season 3 stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Joanne Whalley, Jay Ali, Wilson Bethel, Stephen Rider, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.

Daredevil is now available on Netflix.
