‘Daredevil’: Charlie Cox Reveals Why Matt Murdock Returns To The Black Suit

During an interview with Collider, Daredevil star Charlie Cox explained why Matt Murdock will return to his basic black costume in the third season of the series.

Previews for the third season revealed that Matt Murdock will be returning to the black costume he wore before donning the classic red Daredevil at the end of season one. Charlie Cox explained that while Matt used to believe that he had to embrace the symbol of the devil, now he feels as though he has lost the right to don the red costume:

“It’s not explicit, but my understanding of it is clear. Matt, for various reasons, no longer feels like he is deserving of it. It’s almost like he’s lost that privilege. And also that he is, in some ways, outgrown what it stood for. There’s also another reason why he cannot, literally can not wear the suit.”

Details on the plot for Daredevil season 3 are currently under wraps, though the conclusion of The Defenders suggested that the story will be inspired by writer Frank Miller and artist David Mazzucchelli’s Born Again comic book arc. Furthermore, the second season of Iron Fist included a post-credits that features a battered and bloodied Matt Murdock in a church confession booth, claiming that he has decided to forego his social life as Matt Murdock to spend more time bringing people to justice as Daredevil.

Daredevil season 3 stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Wilson Bethel, Jay Ali, and Lesley Ann Warren.

Daredevil season 3 will be released on October 19, 2018, on Netflix.
