‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Has Connection To ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

What is it that Jeph Loeb always says? It’s all connected. Except, not really. Yes, Iron Man exists in the world of the Defenders and has been name dropped in Marvel Netflix series like Luke Cage and, well, Daredevil. But Luke Cage is barely a blip on Tony Stark’s radar. Especially now. Not that the Marvel Netflix series are in any way having constant winks and nods to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe in the way that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does, but there have been occasional connections between both worlds.

Take Daredevil, for example, like the Crusher Creel mention in the first season. The gang war between Frank Castle and the rest of the gangs in Hell’s Kitchen is quickly referenced in a news crawl on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and then a Judas Bullet from Luke Cage popped up on S.H.I.E.L.D. not long after. But let’s get back to Daredevil. The New York Bulletin has always had two newspapers referencing huge MCU events — the Battle of New York, or just The Incident, from The Avengers, and the Incredible Hulk’s battle with the Abomination on 2008.

With Season 3 of Daredevil dropping this past weekend, there’s another paper at the Bulletin that references a specific blackout that crippled New York. Now, it’s New York, where superpowered beings can be found on every street corner, so perhaps this is just something that happens every weekend. What’s this got to do with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Well, if you recall, one of the attacks on Inhumans involved an electromagnetic pulse that shut down power across various cities — New York being one of them.

Given how the Battle of New York is merely referred to as “The Incident” among locals, it’s not unlikely that a local New York paper would cover how a blackout affected its own city specifically. Not that it wouldn’t also discuss the global implications, but it’s interesting to consider. Not that this means you’re going to see Coulson suddenly show up in Hell’s Kitchen anytime soon. Heck, he may consider this part of New York dangerous territory with the way shows have been getting axed, but it’s worth considering that this headline could indeed be related to S.H.I.E.L.D.
